Stock radio filled that whole hole. Picked up cheap hosing adapter so I could install std size radio, and a wiring harness. The housing adapter fits the dash hole and has hole for std radio , has lil useless cubby hole and some filler. I may modify the housing and install a small CB.Simple radio removal too, just bend 2 pieces of clothes hanger into u shape. Add wiring to dash harness for rear speakers (my truck didn't come with rear speakers). I had some old 6X9 in boxes that have migrated thru several vehicles, i wrapped in the carpet I had left over, mounted behind seats. Jensen radio is an inexpensive unit rated 160 watts(that's what it says), sounds decent. I did have to modify radio. The lights, buttons etc were so bright it was painful. The glare between rear & front windows plus the brightness of the radio was incredible. I actually couldn't use 1st night I drove truck, I simply couldn't see the road. After a lot of correspondence with mfg, they said there was no way to electronically dim the unit. Ok so I pulled it apart, some of the leds I blocked using black pen, other areas & the inside of the buttons I cut small pieces of blue masking tape and shoved inside. Was a bit of work but I cut the glare in half. Anyway now have cd.
Installed rear speakers, they still sound pretty darn good, but these things are ancient, foam is deteriorating. At some point, if I decided to
spend some money, I want to replace. Instead of the boxes Ill modify the factory locations. Im thinking just mounting a piece of particle board over hole, w/hole, mount new speakers on top (for clearance and sound) and using new grills. This'll get rid of the boxes and give me
more storage space, even though the new speaker will sick out a bit more than stock wont be as much as the boxes. Also add some kind of sound deadner to the rear cab wall, swear the radio is almost louder outside.
some day...
